Two World Cup victories have shown us the tremendous support the Springboks have from all sectors of the population. The man on the street has put the past behind and together we have reclaimed the Springbok for the whole nation.
Ordinary black people are supporting the Springboks and white kids have pictures of Bryan Habana and the Odwa Ndunganes on their bedroom walls. My friends and I love supporting black rugby players and marvel at the emerging talent.
But there is always the alternative stance of people such as Butana Komphela, who will focus on the two thugs insulting a black woman at a rugby game rather than the goodwill of 50 000 others who are there to support their team.
They choose to be offended at every instance rather than being reconciliatory, having learnt nothing from the past. This type of mindset always leaves such people bitter and twisted and with a warped sense of justice.
Wake up and smell the coffee, Komphela, the demons are within. If we are to progress as a nation, as a united people, our mindset has to change.
Why not join the rest of us in the sunshine and embrace the new democracy where all people are equal? Or you could continually drag us all back to the past and we can be at each others' throats for the next 200 years.
