Glamorous Miss South Africa 2007 Tansey Coetzee showed a special side of her character when she celebrated her birthday with Sizani Primary School pupils in Soweto yesterday.

The 24-year-old beauty who had two cakes - one from Sun International and another from YO! TV - spent the day chatting and posing for photos with pupils at the school. The children showered her with flowers and gifts.

"It feels as if I'm 21 again," Coetzee said. "Spending a birthday this way was good. This is the best birthday I have ever had. I have never had two big cakes in my life.

" I have always spent my birthday with my mother and a few family members."

Coetzee said she would celebrate the rest of her birthday with her mother and close friends.

Asked why she decided to spend her birthday in Soweto with school kids, Coetzee said she had always loved kids.

"I have always wanted to work with kids even before being Miss South Africa," she said.

"After my reign I will carry on working with them."

One of the organisers, Nombulelo Mswane, who teaches at the school, said they started preparing for the event last week.

"The kids were looking forward to this day," Mswane said. "We worked very hard to celebrate Tansey's birthday."

In December she will be hosting other beauty queens in the Miss World pageant, which will be held in South Africa.

Talking about her reign as Miss South Africa, Coetzee said she had "enjoyed every moment of being Miss South Africa".
