What do you love most about your job?

What do you love most about your job?

That no two days are the same and each day has its own challenges. Also, that I get to see all the latest audio products before they are released.

What qualifications do you have that enable you to be an audio buyer?

A sound knowledge of retail, market trends and product knowledge. You have to know and understand customer's preferences.

How did you become interested in audio technology and gadgets?

I think that every guy subconsciously has an interest in gadgets, but my mind always worked overtime in wanting to know about the latest gadgets and technology.

What were you doing before you became an audio buyer?

I was the appliance buyer for our Africa stores.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?

Having the right product at the right time at the right price with sufficient stock in every store.

Does audio equipment change at a rapid rate or will the technology that we have now be with us for the next few years?

Although we are a developing country, we are very much on par with international trends and will therefore be exposed to all the latest changes, so to answer your question, audio does change at a rapid rate but the current technology will be with us for the next few years.

Do you do much travelling?

Yes, on a regular basis.

Where is the largest audio expo in the world?

Las Vegas.

What is the most interesting gadget that has become available recently?

The iPod is the most interesting and one of the most popular audio gadgets.

Name one of your best sellers. Why do you think that this item is popular?

The LG HT303SU Home Theatre. The product has a piano black finish which complements the new LCDs and plasmas that were recently launched and it has parabola sound technology which in theory is virtual sound. The product is well priced and comes with a two-year guarantee.

If you could personally own any piece of audio equipment regardless of price, what would it be?

A state-of-the-art home theatre system.

What do you think is the greatest invention so far in terms of audio?

The iPod.

How do you make decisions about what will sell successfully?

That depends on what the item is. I look at market trends, surveys, market share, international trends and a good mixture of gut feel and current product "sell-throughs".

What's the most fun or interesting audio related experience you've ever had?

The most fun I've had was sitting in the Sony Explode AMG Vito which had a power rating in excess of 150db which literally made my hair stand.

It was equipped with 10 speakers, eight amplifiers, six sub-woofers and had a whopping 30 TV screens.

Most interesting was watching the production line of how a home theatre was manufactured and what goes on behind the scenes that the customers are not aware of.

Do you ever get left with items that just don't sell or are outdated? If so, what does Game do with them?

Quite often. We use supplier recoveries to mark the stock down and move stock around to stores that are selling the product.
