Acting chief of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police and deputy city manager Mkhabela Sibeko has been suspended.
Sibeko, a confidant of former mayor Duma Nkosi and expelled police chief Robert McBride, was suspended on Friday.
Council spokesman Prince Hamnca yesterday confirmed the suspension.
"He is still in discussions with the city manager (Patrick Flusk) about charges that will be put to him. They have not been formulated," Hamnca said.
But a senior official in the council's legal department confirmed that Sibeko was suspended because of his alleged involvement in the awarding of a contract to a company owned by his son and Nkosi's daughter. - Kingdom Mabuza
