Bafana Bafana are going for the jugular against equally struggling Equatorial Guinea in the 2010 World Cup-Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to keep their winning rhythm after the incredible display against Malawi.
Speaking after training at Pilditch Stadium yesterday, captain Aaron Mokoena said they want to end the qualifiers on a high note to avoid finishing last in Group 4.
Bafana, strengthened by the return of the foreign legion after the 3-0 win over Malawi, take on bottom side Equatorial Guinea in Malabo on Saturday at 5pm.
"We played and beat Equatorial Guinea here at home, but it will be a different kettle of fish now that they are also playing in their own back yard," said Mokoena. "We have to keep the winning momentum after beating Malawi, especially considering there is a big one next week against Ghana in Bloemfontein."
Mokoena is back in the team after missing the 0-1 defeat by Nigeria as he served a one-match suspension.
First-choice goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune said: "It is important to win. For us the game is part of the build-up to the 2009 Confederations Cup."
Khune was delighted that his mentor and former teammate, Brian Baloyi, was back in the team as one of the three goalkeepers. The third is Shu-Aib Walters.
Baloyi and Walters were called up on Monday after the withdrawal of Moeneeb Josephs due to a wrist injury.
Walters said: "It's such a great feeling to have been given an opportunity to play for Bafana Bafana, I didn't really expect it. It is a great experience to be in the team with some of the greatest soccer player. We are looking forward to doing well at the weekend."
Bafana Bafana coach Joel Santana said they needed a win as part of their preparations to assemble an all-conquering team for the 2010 World Cup.
Bafana Bafana leave for Malabo tomorrow night with hopes of registering their second win in the qualifiers high.
