The Msukaligwa local municipality has filed a criminal case with the police after trees in its jurisdiction were cut down.

The trees were allegedly cut down by unknown people at the Douglas Dam in Ermelo "without written permission".

"Whoever cut the trees contravened the Conservation of Agriculture Resources Act No 43 and should be brought to book," said municipal spokesman Surprise Nkosi.

He said no contract was issued through any municipal procurement process and no permission was granted by council for the pine trees under its jurisdiction to be cut down.
