Young blood for Cape Odyssey

The youngest competitor at this year's Cape Odyssey is 21-year-old university student Christopher Oldnall.

The youngest competitor at this year's Cape Odyssey is 21-year-old university student Christopher Oldnall.

Running the equivalent of four marathons and one ultra marathon over the course of five consecutive days, Oldnall and his close friend, Chris Palmer, 26, will take up the 202km challenge from Hermanus to Boschendal Wine Estate this week.

Oldnall is studying for a BEd FET General at Pretoria University.

Competing in teams of two, runners need to avoid time penalties by staying together at all times during the race.

"Chris and I are very close and make a great team. We've played club hockey together and our dads have worked together for years. Chris is incredibly organised. In a race like this, you're only as strong as your weakest link," said an upbeat Oldnall. - Sapa
