BERLIN - Germany has announced nine venues for the 2011 women's World Cup.
The capital Berlin, Frankfurt, Dresden, Moenchengladbach, Augsburg, Sinsheim, Bochum, Wolfsburg and Leverkusen will be the host cities for the total of 32 matches.
The 16-team tournament will open in Berlin on June 26, with the final to take place in Frankfurt on July 17 2011. The tournament in Germany comes five years after the country hosted the 2006 men's World Cup.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Fifa president Joseph Blatter, German Football Federation president Theo Zwanziger and former women's international Steffi Jones, who heads the organising committee, were among those who attended the announcement ceremony last week. - Sapa-DPA
