Eight criminals, including two policemen, have been arrested after a spate of ATM bombings in Mpumalanga.
Two Absa ATMs were blasted in August and on Monday gunmen blasted another.
Police investigations in Monday's bombing at the Caltex-Total garage in Norda Street, Leslie, led them to a 22-year-old constable attached to the local police station.
Captain Leonard Hlathi said the arrest followed the discovery of a firearm magazine belonging to the constable at the scene of the bombing.
Members of the provincial organised crime unit arrested the constable on Wednesday.
They also found that "he had approached a female clerk working in the storeroom for exhibits and offered her R500 if she would sell him a magazine."
Hlathi said the police approached the constable and found that his firearm had no magazine.
"He said he did not operate alone and gave us valuable information that led to the arrest of a local police inspector in the early hours of yesterday morning," Hlathi said.
He said two unlicensed firearms and a large amount of cash was found in the possession of the inspector.
Hlathi said: "we arrested six more suspects and recovered another unlicensed firearm."
