The 23-year-old pupil of Lindelani High School, who made a 14-year-old pupil pregnant for the second time, might find himself in hot water if the state prosecutor decides he should be charged with statutory rape.

Yesterday police confirmed that they had sent a docket to the prosecutor for a decision.

They also confirmed that the parents of the girl could be in trouble for allegedly accepting the relationship and not protecting a minor.

The young mother made headlines last week after it emerged that she had miscarried her second child with the same man.

Her family buried the foetus behind the family house, causing an outcry from the community.

Some community members said the relationship was allegedly encouraged by the girl's mother and that the "student father" had compensated the family for the first-born grandchild who is seven-months old.

Police confirmed the girl was still at school. But they disputed reports that the girl had been made pregnant by a teacher.

Police spokesman Inspector Siwe Nxumalo said the girl had been made pregnant by another pupil with whom she had had a long-standing relationship.

"Our investigations revealed that the two have a seven-month-old baby, and the girl was six months pregnant with her second child when she allegedly had a miscarriage," Nxumalo said.

"We have sent a docket to the public prosecutor for a decision on whether the pupil should be prosecuted for having a sexual relationship with a minor. He might face a charge of statutory rape," Nxumalo said.
