Learning and teaching at a Limpopo school will be difficult during the third term that begins on Monday.

A vicious storm swept away the roof of the Edward Homu High School last Friday while pupils were preparing for their end-of-year examinations.

Frustrated pupils had to seek cover when the roof was blown away.

Grade 8 pupil Hlamulo Mabunda said she worked hard the whole of this year to make it to the next grade.

"But this disruption has disillusioned most of us and will affect our performance," she said.

Mabunda was commended by her teachers at the school as an outstanding pupil who always performed well in English, Xitsonga and science and technology.

Mabunda pleaded with the department of education to provide her and her schoolmates with alternative classrooms and to address the crisis at the school quickly.

School governing body chairman Bethuel Mabasa said tables, desks, stationery and textbooks were ruined by the rain that fell during the storm.

Mabasa said the school was a death trap for both pupils and teachers since the roof was leaking and the walls crumbled.

The school has 13 dilapidated classrooms with an enrolment of 811 pupils.

Provincial spokesman for the education department Ndo Mangala said the department was aware of the problems and promised to address the situation.
