A 25-year-old KwaZulu-Natal woman is recovering in hospital after she was raped by men who gave her a lift in Mpumalanga and then stuffed stones in her private parts and mouth.
Without going into details Mpho Gabashane, spokesman for the Mpumalanga MEC for health, said doctors at the Bethal Provincial Hospital managed to remove the stones and the patient was in a stable condition.
The victim, from Pongola, was travelling with her two-and half-year-old daughter to visit her husband and father of the child in Siyabuswa.
They were given a lift from Ermelo to Bethal in Mpumalanga by two men travelling in a metallic coloured BMW, according to police.
Constable Doris Nkadimeng confirmed the incident yesterday, saying the victim was still receiving treatment at the local provincial hospital.
She said the woman hitchhiked from Pongola in KwaZulu-Natal to Ermelo, from where she was given another lift by two men in a BMW at about 4:30pm.
"On the way to Bethal the men turned off at the farm Kippen on to a gravel road and stopped somewhere in the veld, where they allegedly took turns raping her.
"During that time they also took turns watching the crying child," she said.
Nkadimeng said the men afterwards allegedly stuffed stones into her "vagina and anus and forced her to swallow some of the stones".
She allegedly could not swallow them because they were too big.
They left her and her traumatised daughter in the veld but she managed to hitch a ride to the nearby Jan Frik filling station.
Emergency services personnel and the police were called in at about 8:30pm and they attended to the woman.
