A Limpopo man is angry at the police after he was allegedly assaulted for no apparent reason.

Obed Maphutha has sustained injuries on his body as a result of the assault.

He said he was with his girlfriend on Friday night when he was approached by a group of police officers.

Maphutha, 26, said he was puzzled when police demanded that he show them his firearm.

He did not have any gun with him. Maphutha said he lost a cellphone and wallet with R700 in it during the beating. Police allegedly sjamboked, kicked and punched him.

Maphutha said he was detained and released the following day without being charged. He tried to open a case against the cops but no one would take a statement from him.

The Independent Complaints Directorate is investigating the matter.
