The 35-year-old clocked 2 hours 3 minutes 59 seconds here on Sunday, his 26th world record or world best.
"After the race, I didn't feel so tired," Gebrselassie said. "But today (yesterday), I couldn't wake up. I didn't train this (yesterday) morning. But it feels great to be the first man under 2.04 in the marathon.
"I don't expect (anybody to run a sub 2-hour marathon) before 20 years," he added.
"But I can do 2.03 something. If I don't get injured, maybe 2.02.59, but considering my shape and age, 2.03.30, or 2.03.20."
He also said that electing to run the 10000 metres in the Beijing Olympics, where he finished sixth, had been the right decision.
"It helped a lot here. When you can run 26 minutes 51 seconds (for a 10000m), running 10 kilometres in a marathon in 29 minutes is nothing. It's easy."
The Ethiopian, who set his first first world record in Hengelo, Netherlands, back in 1994, running 12.56:96 for the 5000m, will next be in action in a 15 km race in Melbourne, Australia, on November 30. - Sapa-AP
