The police's organised crime unit has been dealt a blow in the murder case involving Milton Morema, the executive mayor of Bushbuckridge, and two others after forensic tests failed to positively or negatively link the three to the murder.

This after the forensic science laboratory in Pretoria failed to detec t any blood from the blanket and bed sheet that had been used to cover the body of the supposedly murdered Jeffrey Sedibe.

According to a confidential document with results leaked to Sowetan,no further DNA analysis were carried out.

The document was compiled on August 20 and sent to the branch commander of the provincial (Mpumalanga) tracing team.

The remains that police believe were of Sedibe were exhumed on April 12 at Masoyi Cemetery near Hazyview in Mpumalanga before being sent to Pretoria for the forensic tests.

Captain Leonard Hlathi, the spokesman for the provincial organised crime unit, said the results of the tests would not stop the police from pursuing the matter.

"We have enough evidence to go ahead with the case with or without positive DNA results," Hlathi said yesterday.

Morema, Lukios Mosoma and Erasmus Makhubele are waiting for a high court decision on October 13 as to whether or not their withdrawn murder charges would be reinstated.

The charges were withdrawn by magistrate George Risimati at the Acornhoek police station on May 27.

The three men allegedly killed Sedibe in 2003 when he allegedly asked for the outstanding balance of his payment after having been hired to kill Motion Mashile, who was a teacher at the time.
