Veteran kwaito musician Mdu Masilela has proved to be a worthy role model by making Stephani Mtimane's dream a reality.
Masilela has offered to sponsor Matimane's marriage to Rubi Mnisi. Both are HIV-positive.
The 46-year-old told Sowetan he was over the moon to finally marry his sweetheart, Mnisi.
"I don't know where to start thanking M'du. I want to show people that being HIV-positive does not mean a death sentence. To me, it is the beginning of good things," said Mtimane of Vosloorus.
He said he would walk down the aisle on November 29 in Moletsane, Soweto, and complete the event at his home the following day. Mtimane said he met Mnisi early last year at one of the public talks he conducts.
"After seeing her on a few occasions a strong passion developed in me. The way we related made me realise that we were destined for each other."
Masilela of Mazola fame said he had donated R10 000 to help in the preparations and lobola for Mtimane.
Masilela said he was touched by how he openly talked about his HIV status in public.
"I met Stephani at the launch of my project, Knowing Your Status-Iyang'philisa, in schools and informal settlements. He was making his public talks, encouraging people to test."
