Crisis is not about ethnicity

We are living in uncertain times, but it's part of growth. Like any democracy, we have to go through this dark phase. Transition is not easy.

We are living in uncertain times, but it's part of growth. Like any democracy, we have to go through this dark phase. Transition is not easy.

We have done it before, moving from apartheid to democracy. Don't allow ANC politics to divide the country. It is irresponsible and dangerous to portray leadership battles as tribal wars. Tribalism is dangerous.

Xhosas were blamed for Jacob Zuma's rape trial.

Apartheid divided us and built tribal walls between ethnic groups. It fuelled stereotypes and prejudices. In 1994, we destroyed those artificial barriers and said the country belongs to all who live in it.

We will not kill for tribal reasons. Let's learn from the xenophobic violence.

That pain, suffering and bloodshed shamed this country and was a blight on our Constitution, that promotes human dignity and freedom for all.

Nelson Mandela didn't spend 27 years in prison to free only Xhosas, but to liberate South Africa.

Media such as Sowetan must educate society about the dangers of ethnicity.

We have bigger problems - crime, HIV-Aids, education, healthcare, inequality, poverty etc.

The leadership must also guide us. It is our collective responsibility to unite and build the country.
