It is worrying that we still have magistrates in South Africa who flagrantly and vaingloriously abuse their positions to degrade and denigrate other human beings.
The deplorable behaviour of Port Elizabeth magistrate Johan Herselman, who called a cleaner a baboon (Sowetan September 19), does a disservice to both the judiciary and the fragile race relations in this country.
Irresponsible and racially motivated behaviour such as Herselman's should not be tolerated, simply because they take the country two steps back for every forward step.
