Music band Stimela is set to make a comeback to the entertainment world following a positive decision by a Limpopo company to revive the group.

Stimela used to mesmerise fans in the 1980s and 1990s but was disbanded after the members separated to pursue solo careers.

Now, TM Productions, a company in Limpopo, has decided to rewind the career of the group.

The company's boss, Tumi Mokwena, told Sowetan that the aim was to revive "this African supergroup to take its rightful place in the world of music".

He said he was disturbed when he realised that the band was struggling to make ends meet.

"Look, Stimela used to sing songs that had messages of liberation and challenging social ills in them.

"We cannot allow those messages to fade away, hence we are determined to revive the group."

Raymond "Chikapa" Phiri, the group's leader, confirmed yesterday that they had agreed on terms with Mokwena and that they would be performing at the Meropa Casino in Polokwane next week.
