ANC general secretary Gwede Mantashe says the ANC Youth League's call for President Thabo Mbeki to be fired is not final because the league's statement is not necessarily the ANC's view.
Mantashe was reacting to a statement this week by the league's president, Julius Malema, who called for Mbeki to be sacked in the light of the Pietermaritzburg high court judgment that the national prosecuting authority decision to re-charge Zuma was unlawful.
"We wish to make it clear that the ANC NEC is the highest decision-making body in the organisation between conferences.
"While the youth league has a right to articulate its own positions, the ANC NEC does not tail the youth league," he said.
Mantashe said the NEC would discuss Judge Chris Nicholson's ruling, its implications and the ANC's interest on it at its regular meeting scheduled for tomorrow until Sunday.
