Police have launched a manhunt for two private delivery operators who allegedly abducted a customer and took her to a secluded area and raped her.

Inspector Solomon Mbhele said a 35-year-old woman had bought a bed from a Pinetown store on Monday and hired the two, who operate from outside furniture stores looking for people who need deliveries done for them.

The men were supposed to transport the woman's bed to her home in KwaNdengezi.

Mbhele said the woman had travelled in the same van with the men when the incident happened.

"They drove to a secluded area in Marianhill, where both allegedly raped her and fled with the bed," said Mbhele.

Mbhele said the suspects were independent operators who park their vans outside furnisher shops and whoever wanted a delivery van could hire them.

He said no arrests had been made but was confident of a breakthrough soon.

"The Pinetown Cartage Association is cooperating with us and we are positive we will make the arrests soon," he said.

Mbhele said police were investigating a case of abduction, rape and robbery.

Meanwhile, police at KwaMsane in Mtubatuba are looking for a jilted lover who allegedly shot his former girlfriend dead when he found her with her new boyfriend on Monday night.

Phumla Mtshali, 23, died on the scene and the new lover, Siyabonga Xulu, 27, was rushed to KwaHlabisa Hospital in a serious condition .

Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said the two lovebirds were relaxing at Mtshali's rented house when her former lover burst in and sprayed them with bullets.

"The suspect is still at large," he said.
