Despite being ordered not to set foot in government buildings from the end of last month, Mpumalanga social development deputy director-general (DDG) Hussain Verachia is defiant and keeps going to work.
According to Premier Thabang Makwetla's office Verachia's contract expired on August 31 and was not renewed.
But the embattled social services boss insists that he is in possession of an employment letter from former departmental MEC Pogisho Pasha, which says he holds the permanent position of DDG.
He says he has held two positions since 2005 as head of th department (HOD) and DDG. He insists that his HOD contract, which expired last month, does not affect his DDG post.
He says he will keep going to work until he has been issued with a letter of dismissal.
"Pasha gave me an appointment letter in which he assigned me the responsibilities as DDG for social services, which was unilaterally done without my consent," Verachia says.
In 2004 Makwetla announced the establishment of the department of health and social services, with Verachia assigned the responsibility of head of department of the combined departments.
"Makwetla entered into two performance agreements with me and when Pasha was deployed to the department in 2005 the position, in terms of work study and job evaluation principles, was graded at the level of superintendent," said Verachia.
It is, however, not clear if Verachia will be paid at the end of the month.
Earlier this year the Pretoria high court twice ruled in his favour after the original high court file and tapes of the judgment disappeared.
