The departure of senior staff members at the 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee is continuing. The latest to resignation is that of competitions manager Steve Watson.

Watson yesterday submitted his resignation letter to Danny Jordaan, the chief executive of the organising committee.

"It is true Steve has resigned, he is going back to motor racing where he has been offered the position of chief executive officer," said Jordaan.

This comes two weeks after the LOC suffered a major blow with the departure of chief competitions officer Dennis Mumble.

The hard-working Mumble left after complaining of being ignored when certain crucial decisions were taken by the management.

Prior to the departure of Mumble, there were other senior staff members who left the organising committee such as Emy Casalleti and Tumi Makgabo.

Jordaan has strongly denied that Farouk Seedat, the LOC's chief financial officer, has also tendered his resignation letter.

"I don't know anything about Farouk. You know I would have confirmed if there was such a letter on my desk. As far as I know, Farouk is not going."

Sowetan has learnt that two more senior staff members are on their way out, but decided to wait for the departure of Fifa president Sepp Blatter before resigning.

Blatter will be here from Sunday until Wednesday to inspect the country's preparations for the 2009 Confederations Cup and World Cup.

Seedat could not be reached for comment with a number of messages unreturned.
