The people will have their say in the elections

The letter by Thabile Mange, "Populists want power but will not deliver", which was published on Tuesday is to some extent subjective.

The letter by Thabile Mange, "Populists want power but will not deliver", which was published on Tuesday is to some extent subjective.

The writer suggests that the current leadership of the tripartite alliance consists of populists incapable of service delivery.

It is public knowledge that the ANCYL, SACP and Cosatu have used their influence within the alliance to advance their interests.

These organisations represent the interest of the working class, the poorest of the poor, and future leaders of this country.

As far as populists' interest in positions goes, Zwelinzima Vavi has said he would not accept a government position after next year's elections. So he cannot be classified among them.

The ruling party has an abundance of intellectuals and independent thinkers, such as Kgalema Motlanthe and Kader Asmal, whom I doubt would keep quiet to protect their positions.

For instance, what does Archbishop Desmond Tutu stand to lose if he speaks out against these leaders?

Shouldn't we conclude that they represent the views of the majority. Perhaps the question Mange should ask is whether these comrades represent the views of their constituencies.

In the elections next year, ordinary people will speak in favour or against the new ANC leadership.
