Prosper makes a mess of it again

Riot Hlatshwayo

Music promoter Prosper Mkwaiwa has done it again.

Last year he advertised that Ringo Madlingozi would perform at a festival in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, but the star didn't pitch.

This year he said Oliver Mtukudzi would give a show at a concert but he was still at the Bassline in Newtown at 11pm on Saturday night and desperately trying to get to Nelspruit.

"I received a call from Mtukudzi at 11.21pm to say he was leaving the Bassline in Johannesburg for Nelspruit but the police had insisted there would be no one at the venue by 2am," Mkwaiwa said.

Mtukudzi's agent, Chris Syren, accused Mkwaiwa of confusing people at Mtukudzi's expense because he had initially booked him for September 7 in Witbank but changed the date and venue just five days before the show.

He confirmed that Mtukudzi wanted to leave the Bassline at about 11pm, just to save the situation, but Mkwaiwa had failed to arrange accommodation.

"I had to personally make a booking at a hotel in Nelspruit but received an SMS from Prosper telling me he was at the police station and thought he was under arrest," Syren said.

Mkwaiwa said that fans at the show "were so happy they did not even realise that Mtukudzi was not there on Saturday".

He saw nothing wrong with what had happened but a fan said: "It is not the first time that Prosper has done this to us.

"Last year Ringo Madlingozi did not pitch up because of Prosper's rotten promotional tactics."
