Two years ago, Lindani Ndwandwe lost in the playoffs to Alex Handl in the first Suncoast Classic event at the Durban Country Club.
Now the Inanda-born Ndwandwe will try again to challenge for the title, this time from Brazilian Adilson da Silva, who is the defending champion, when they tee off at the same venue from tomorrow until Saturday.
"Every time I play, I always go for a win," said Ndwandwe, who won the Western Province Classic, one of the major events on the Sunshine Tour, after turning professional in 2001.
"My drives have improved because I'm always on the fairways, but my putting has been giving me sleepless nights. I have been working on it, and hopefully I will be on top of my game when the tournament starts," said Ndwandwe who is a member of the Durban Country Club.
Last week Ndwandwe finished 31st in the Telkom PGA Pro-Am that was played at the Centurion Country Club in Pretoria but he said all that was water under the bridge.
He said he was looking forward to taking the lion's share of the R500 000 purse. The winner pockets R79 250.
Defending champion Da Silva will lead the field of 72 professionals in the 56-hole event and anything is possible.
