The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is concerned by international media reports about crime in South Africa.
This comes after the brutal murders of a prominent Durban attorney, Naren Sham, 56, his wife Meera, 56, and their son Kavir, 20, who was a law student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
ANC provincial secretary Senzo Mchunu, pictured, said the views expressed in international media, especially in India, about Indians being under attack were incorrect.
"The brutal manner in which the Sham family was killed portrays us as savages that don't value human life.
"We send our condolences to the Sham family," he said.
Mchunu said it was wrong to portray crime as an issue affecting only white citizens or minority groups.
"Crime affects everyone of us and we cannot politicise it. We need to work together in making our communities safe places to live in," said Mchunu.
