Bafana Bafana's crisis under clueless coach Joel Santana continued at Super Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, last night after the 2010 World Cup hosts were shown the stars by Guinea, who narrowly beat them 0-1 in an international friendly.

Prior to the start of the game, a moment of silence was observed in honour of former Bafana Bafana and Moroka Swallows defender Jacob "Bobo" Lekgetho, who died in Lenasia yesterday after a long illness.

Botswana referee Joseph Bondo booked Balde Algassinou of Guinea for rough tackling Surprise Moriri in the 14th minute. Two minutes later, Bafana Bafana defender Innocent Mdledle tested goalie Youssouf Toure from the left flank.

Guinea, ranked 40th in the world, took the lead in the 18th minute through Camara Ninka Yady, whose superb long range shot gave goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs no chance.

Twelve minutes later, South African captain Sibusiso Zuma missed a sitter when he shot wide with only Toure to beat after being set-up by Moriri.

The goal seemed to have inspired Syli Nationale Stars, who played to a goalless draw with the Warriors of Zimbabwe in a 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday, who raided the South African goal area in search of more.

Bafana Bafana defence, bolstered by the return of Russia-based Matthew Booth after being overlooked by various coaches for almost four years, resorted to playing off-side traps to avoid further embarrassment.

Josephs brilliantly parried a tricky cross from Larsen Toure back into play in the 41st minute, which resulted in a section of a handful of Bafana supporters calling on Santana to make changes.

Santana, who is increasingly under pressure after Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the 2010 Afcon in Angola after a 1-0 defeat by Nigeria at the weekend, responded by introducing three new players in the second half.

Teko Modise, Daine Klate and Siboniso Gaxa came in for Lebogang Mothibantwa, Thulasizwe Mbuyane and Nazeer Allie, respectively.

The hosts still dominated but like it was the case against Nigeria, they appeared to have left their scoring boots at home.
