Motormouth Walter Mokoena enjoyed slagging off a soccer player who lost his virginity to a goat, but now he's been suspended because viewers didn't like what he said.
The Soccer Zone presenter is at home licking his wounds after the SABC dropped the hatchet on his neck.
Mokoena, as contrite now as he is controversial, said: "I apologise. It was an error of judgment on my part and I take full responsibility for what happened.
"It was not my intention to offend anyone. I apologise to the offended people."
The award-winning presenter said he did not know when his suspension would be lifted but an investigation was under way.
TV viewers were up in arms when he spoke about Garrincha, a famous but deceased Brazilian footballer with indiscriminate sexual habits.
They laid a complaint with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission and an outraged letter writer to Sowetan yesterday said "he went on repeating this sordid story".
"What was also disgusting is that it amused him," the writer said.
"Mokoena behaved like a pervert and his comments were distasteful. He should be removed from Soccer Zone."
Well, he has been, but the fact is that Garrincha really did lose his virginity to a goat (see side bar).
Mokoena, as talented as he is, is he surely being made out to be a scapegoat?
