The I want to Sing Gospel competition is getting tougher by the day.

Presented by Thabo Mdluli, the show is searching for South Africa's next gospel star.

On Sunday two of the 10 contestants, Shannon Owies and Berlinda Donker, were booted out of the competition.

The judges are Deborah Fraser, Lindelani Mkhize, Vicky Vilakazi and Tsholo Leokaoke.

The two contestants who hung up their microphones were very unfortunate to get less public votes after singing their hearts out while performing.

Owies from Cape Town sang better than many contestants and even Vilakazi, the judge, was pleased with her performance. It's a pity she had to go.

However, she was positive about her elimination.

She said: "I think I have done my best and this is the start of my career. "

Donker was also among the contestants who performed splendidly and Fraser said of her: "She has a good voice and the talent."

In her exit interview she said: "I have learnt a lot in this competition and I think it's God's will that I have been eliminated."

Contestants like Lusanda Beja failed to shine. Even the hanging judge, Mkhize, admitted that Beja's performance was not impressive.

"I have been watching Lusanda growing in this competition but tonight's performance was not the best."

Lungisani Ntuli, one of the talented singers in the competition, was also not impressive while votes saved Siphumelele Mbambo of Durban from the chop.

Catch the show on SABC2 at 8pm on Sunday.
