Bafana Bafana will line up a series of friendlies against some football superpowers around the globe to sharpen themselves up for the 2010 World Cup finals.
This is according to Bafana coach Joel Santana after his dismal failure to guide Bafana Bafana to the finals of the MTN Africa Cup of Nations in Angola in 2010.
Santana's series of friendlies begin tomorrow with a home international friendly against Guinea at Super Stadium at 6pm.
The Brazilian coach said he would use the game to assess players like Matthew Booth, Petrus Mahlatsi and Bernard Parker. "We've got Fifa dates on which we plan to arrange international friendlies to keep the team in good shape and have a look at players like Booth.
"The focus will be more on the major countries, which is important for us as part of our World Cup preparations. These will be against teams from Asia, Africa and Europe.
"The aim is to expose all our players to international football, we want them to have more international games in the build-up to the World Cup.
"We have three to four months to come up with a competitive squad for the Confederations Cup. We will spend the time between now and December in choosing the players. For the Confederations Cup, we have already identified about 70 percent of the team. Pitso (Mosimane) and Jairo (Leal) have a pool of 40 players."
Sipho Nkumane, Bafana Bafana manager, said Guinea would arrive in the country today from Harare, where they played against Zimbabwe yesterday.
The team is:
Goalkeepers - Itumeleng Khune (Kaizer Chiefs), Moeneeb Josephs (Orlando Pirates).
Defenders - Matthew Booth (Krylya Sovetov, Russia);
Brett Evans, Allie Nazeer (Ajax Cape Town); Siboniso Gaxa, Mbulelo Mabizela (Mamelodi Sundowns); Bongani Khumalo (SuperSport United); Bevan Fransman (Maccabi Netanya, Israel); Innocent Mdledle (Orlando Pirates).
