SACP hits out at ANC leaders

The SACP in the Western Cape says the "factionalist conduct of the current ANC provincial leadership" may harm the ruling party's chances of winning the province in next year's national elections.

In a statement released after its special provincial council on Saturday, the SACP hit out at provincial ANC leaders, saying their behaviour could "deepen the divisions" in the tripartite alliance. The statement came just one hour after ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe assured the media, at a press conference across town, that all the problems in the ANC had been ironed out and that the party's provincial conference would take place by the end of the month.

The SACP said national alliance leaders had not yet resolved their demand that the "unilateral appointment" of three new MECs be reversed.
