Home Affairs director-general Mavuso Msimang said he would crack down on corruption, and he is being true to his word.

Two officials were arrested in Pretoria on Friday in separate incidents and they are facing the full might of the law.

The first official was arrested after being found in possession of 10 identity documents during a routine search by security officials at the department's ID factory. A case has been opened at the Pretoria central police station.

The second official was arrested after police asked Home Affairs to assist them with the arrest.

The official was stationed at the Government Printing Works (GPW) and police had been investigating him for allegedly selling blank South African passports to a Nigerian citizen.

GPW is a government printing entity under the Department of Home Affairs.

Department spokesman Siobhan McCarthy said internal disciplinary procedures would be followed in both cases and the suspects were also expected to appear in court.

"We will not be deterred in our resolve to rid the department of these unscrupulous elements. We appeal to South Africans to report these types of illegal activities," McCarthy said.

Corruption activities can be reported on the Anti-Corruption Hotline: 0800 701 701.
