Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a manhunt for a 28-year-old man who allegedly killed his two children, aged two and three years, and sent an SMS to their mother, "threatening to blow himself up".
Police spokesman Inspector Sbu Sithole said the children - Okuhle, 2, and Amahle, 3 - were killed on Wednesday night.
Police identified their father as Sifiso Ndlela, of Ntshongweni in Hillcrest.
"At this stage we don't know how they were killed because there was no blood or any obvious sign of bodily harm. We suspect he might have strangled them, but a postmortem will give us an indication of how they died," said Sithole.
He said the mother of the children, Hlengiwe Mabaso, 22, was not at home when the children died.
"Mabaso told us that she was in Hammersdale visiting her sick mother when she received a message on her cellphone from her boyfriend, telling her that he had killed their children and threatened to blow himself up," he said.
Sithole said Mabaso went back home with the police and found the bodies of the children lying in a bed in a locked bedroom.
Sithole said they hoped Mabaso would shed some light on what had led Ndlela to do such a dastardly crime.
"At this stage, the motive of the killings is unknown and we are trying to establish the man's whereabouts to find out if he is still alive," he said.
