Action is hotting up across the continent as the Confederation of African Football's Champions League moves up a gear and clubs jostle for positions in the money brackets.

Asec Abidjan and TP Mazembe Englebert won their first games in the group phase of the African Champions League last Sunday to open up the race for semifinal places.

Ivory Coast's Asec swept to a 3-0 win over five-time winners Zamalek of Egypt, just hours after the Democratic Republic of Congo side Mazembe beat Nigeria's Enyimba by the same scoreline in Lubumbashi.

The result left group leaders Al Ahli of Egypt just one point away from claiming a semifinal berth.

The Egyptian giants, who beat Dynamos of Zimbabwe 1-0 away in Harare on Saturday, lead with 10 points, five more than Asec.

Zamalek and Dynamos are also still alive in the competition despite their weekend setbacks.

These are among the highlights on the African Soccer Television show which airs on SABC1 Sport's Laduma programme on Sundays.

Football fans will also be treated to the Ivorian Ligue 1's round 18, which saw Asec Mimosas play to a 2-2 draw at home to Denguele and SO Armee crush Issia Wazzi 2-0.

Sabe Bouna were held to a 1-all draw by visiting Stella Club, while USC Bassam scored a great goal to sink Sporting Gagnoa 1-0.

Africa Sports were not intimidated away at ES Bingerville, brushing them aside 2-0 with Ouragahio losing 0-1 to Stade Abidjan

The Girabola League from Angola entered round 19 last weekend.

Highlights will focus on Bravos do Maquis, who lost 1-2 to ASA, and Benfica Luanda, who pipped Interclube 1-0 while 1 d'Agosto cruised to a 2-0 win at Benfica do Lubango.

Petro Luanda secured a narrow 1-0 win over Santos.

The Confederation Cup saw Asante Kotoko sneak a 1-0 win at Al Merrikh with the Under-17 Championship's round 1 seeing Ghana thrash Libya 3-0. - additional reporting by Reuters
