ANC leaders should forge party unity

The recent developments in the ANC should be worrying for all the cadres of the movement.

The recent developments in the ANC should be worrying for all the cadres of the movement.

This concern arises mainly for to two critical reasons.

Firstly, the rich traditions of the ANC, loyalty, discipline and internal democratic processes, are currently being undermined even by some of our cadres.

Secondly, the ability of the ANC to lead society is being eroded by the unfortunate public utterances by some of its leaders who, instead of engaging within the organisation, play to the gallery.

The ANC is the ruling party and both national and international confidence in our country will depend on how the organisation conducts itself.

This is premised on the understanding that our movement is charged with the responsibility not only to lead its members but the whole society and the SADC region.

So it is prudent that the ANC should project itself as a united, focused and coherent unit. This will enable our movement to play its role in ensuring that our country prospers.

As a member of the ANC, I get confused when my leaders and their alliance partners say contradictory things. It would help me and others in society if our tradition of internal engagement could be resumed. The message our movement sends out should reflect why the ANC was formed, which is unity.
