Upliftment high up on agenda

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has called on women to join the working class to help fight poverty, unemployment and inequality on the African continent.

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has called on women to join the working class to help fight poverty, unemployment and inequality on the African continent.

Mlambo-Ngcuka told an international conference on women and employment recently that poverty, unemployment and inequality impacted more on women.

"The biggest challenge for Africa is finding options that are predictable and where entry barriers for women into the market are removed," she said.

Mlambo-Ngcuka, Mozambican prime minister Luisa Diogo and Denmark's minister for development cooperation also visited women in rural areas involved in projects aimed at uplifting women.
