A man in his late 30s was yesterday imprisoned for 10 years after being found guilty of raping a 21-year-old woman.
Convicted rapist Sam Mnisi, 39, of Buffelspruit Trust, raped the his victim last December.
Mnisi appeared in the Nkomazi magistrate's court, where he was found guilty of rape and attempted murder charges.
Schoemansdal police spokesman Constable Nompilo Qwabe said the rape took place when the woman was on her way home from the Matsamo Plaza after a shopping trip.
"Mnisi came out of nearby bushes. threatened her with a knife and then dragged her back into the bush, where he undressed and raped her."
Schoemansdal station commissioner Superintendent Dora Xaba said she was satisfied that the woman's attacker had been found guilty and sentenced.
"We will make sure that we sow "red terror" among rapists in our community. I would like to send the message to those who are still planning to commit rapes that we will deal with them all."
