The development structures set in place by the managers of Platinum Stars are steadily bearing fruit.

Not only has the club's Under-19 team won the SuperSport Under-19 tournament two years in a row now, but the Tycoons' Under- 17's will host a tournament at the team's headquarters in Modderfontein.

The senior team is already enjoying the fruits of this sound developmental structure, with head coach Miguel Gamondi promoting four youngsters to the seniors this season.

The four are Bafana Tshabalala, who made his debut against AmaZulu at the weekend, Lehlohonolo Thebakang, Dino Visser and Sicelo Buthelezi.

Development coach Allan Freese said all their teams - from the Under-13s to the seniors - are connected, and training methods and technicalities are shared across the board.

"We all work together and we spend time teaching the boys the proper way of doing things. For instance, we have what we call our Under-23 team. This is where the professionals who do not get enough game time and those coming from injury play matches against the younger ones," said Freese.

He said Gamondi plays an active role in how things are done in the lower ranks.

The tournament takes place from September 28 to October 4 at the Modderfontein sports grounds. Twenty clubs will be registered on a first come, first served basis. The registration fee is R1600. Call Kelly at 076 633 5241, Lerato at 073 31 44657 or (011) 6159028, or e-mail lisav@prudent.co.za.
