Sasco is correct on renaming

After reading the letter "Buthelezi fought apartheid too", of August 27, I thought to myself, here is another IFP fanatic trying to distort history and the role played by Mangosuthu Buthelezi in sustaining the oppressive apartheid system.

After reading the letter "Buthelezi fought apartheid too", of August 27, I thought to myself, here is another IFP fanatic trying to distort history and the role played by Mangosuthu Buthelezi in sustaining the oppressive apartheid system.

It is not my intention to remind Gary Selikow that the people in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng know the role Buthelezi played in sustaining the apartheid regime.

The call by the South African Students' Congress (Sasco) for the renaming of the Mangosuthu University of Technology should not be ridiculed for narrow, tribal political interests.

This call should be understood within the context of an electorate mandate given to the ANC-led government by the majority of our people to speed up transformation, including the renaming of key and strategic public institutions.

Therefore the IFP and its supporters cannot dictate to the ANC or Sasco how the mandate should be executed.

Renaming Mangosuthu University of Technology is part of rewriting the history of our liberation.

By honouring Buthelezi we will be doing a disservice to the history of our country.

I therefore support the call made by Sasco.
