Karate Organisation of South Africa's Matsushima group have put the selection of their team to the world tournament in Japan on hold until September 24.

This was confirmed by the group's head, Shihan Peter "Poison" Thage.

"The plan was to select a team to Japan during the Sedibeng Kyokushin-kai Karate Association and Emfuleni Municipality tournament in Sebokeng on Saturday.

"As selectors, Sensei Noah Bembe and I were impressed with what we saw, we were left dizzy in terms of who to select and leave out of the Japan-bound team," Thage said.

"It was absolutely great, the standard was high. We have decided to wait until the September 24 championships to select the team of 12 - six boys and six girls."

Thage said the national championships will take place at Wits University.
