A 27-year-old man has been arrested over the gruesome murder of a woman and her son who were found dead in their house on Wednesday.

The incident happened at Seshego Zone 3 outside Polokwane.

Police went to the house after receiving a tip-off and found the two dead.

The woman, 32, was found with multiple stab wounds to her body and her four-year-old son was found in the bath.

The boy had allegedly been strangled.

Seshego police spokesman Sergeant Mothemane Malefo said yesterday that preliminary investigations had revealed that the victims were killed on Saturday night.

He said they received the tip-off on Wednesday and went to investigate.

Following leads, the woman's husband was questioned but was released after he could not be linked to the murders.

A neighbour of the couple was arrested after being "positively linked" to the crime.

The victims were identified as Felicia Mkhabela, 32, and Musa, 4.

By late yesterday, their Soshanguve-based relatives were still to indentify their bodies.

"After the tip-off we worked round the clock trying to put all the information together, hence the success in the matter," said Malefo.

According to him, another arrest was imminent after the arrested man allegedly pointed out another suspect who he claimed had assisted him in the crime.

"We have launched a hunt for the second man and hope to arrest him soon," he said.

Malefo said the arrested man had told the police he had gone to a local inyanga shortly after committing the crime so that he could be cleansed.

"We then took the suspect to the inyanga, who confirmed the suspect had come for consultations on Saturday night."

The suspect's clothes and the weapon used in the murder have been confiscated

Malefo thanked the community for providing i nformation that led to the arrest of the suspect.
