The driver of the car that was involved in the crash that killed Isidingo star Ashley Callie appeared in the Randburg magistrate's court yesterday on charges of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.
Nicolaas Pretorius was driving the Renault station wagon that collided with the soapie star's Smart car in Emmarentia, Johannesburg, on February 8.
He is accused of "negligently causing" the accident. Pretorius, 21, and two female passengers were also injured and treated at a Johannesburg hospital.
Callie died a week later from head injuries sustained in the head-on-collision.
Dressed in jeans, a black shirt and a jacket, the soft-spoken Pretorius asked for the case to be postponed to allow him to obtain a legal representative.
The case was postponed to October 3.
However, the Johannesburg Metro police had exonerated Pretorius, saying that the Renault was travelling southerly and that it was not clear which direction Callie's car had been coming from.
The 32-year-old actress had played ice-queen Leone Haines for six years in the award-winning soapie.
Her role was written off the soapie in respect to her memory.
