A political row has erupted around the parole of Mark Scott-Crossley, the Limpopo farmer who fed his worker to lions.
This follows revelations that Scott-Crossley had jumped the parole queue. On Tuesday, ANC MP and chairman of the parliamentary portfolio committee on correctional services, Dennis Bloem, said there were 117 inmates at Barberton Prison who should have been considered for parole before Scott-Crossley.
Yesterday, opposition parties called for a probe into the release.
The UDM's Bantu Holomisa said: "The ANC must be accountable and must do something about this parole-queue jumping."
The ID's Sakkie Jenner said: "We are concerned that a man who was a perpetrator of the worst kind of racist violence was released from prison so soon.
"South Africans have been treated to a further shock that he could have jumped the queue for parole."
