Drop everything for our heroes

If you had any plans for Sunday, then I suggest you drop them and make a date with the annual music extravaganza, the Tribute To SA Music Heroes Concert.

It takes place at the newly revamped and easy to access Moretele Park in Mamelodi, a stone's throw from Pretoria.

Ready to set the stage on fire and make the 11th anniversary concert unforgettable are Hugh Masekela, Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbulu, Jonas Gwangwa, Winston Mankunku Ngozi, Busi Mhlongo, Jimmy Dludlu, Simphiwe Dana, Ringo Madlingozi, Malaika, Kutu, Linda Kekana, Siphokazi, Camagwini, Heritage School of Music, C.A.F.C.A, Naledi, Ladies In Jazz, Wadee and Xoli Nosenga.

Some of these artists received the heroes award that goes out of its way to recognise and acknowledge excellence. Makeba, Semenya, Masekela, Mhlongo and Gwangwa were honoured for taking our music to the world. They persevered under the most difficult circumstances yet remained true to their home-grown sound. Today, not only are they the most sought-after performers, but their music, thanks to concerts like Tribute To Our Heroes, have our youth chomping at the beat.

The Tribute concert has also set itself apart as one of the most important days in the music calendar by providing families and friends time to catch up against the backdrop of great music.

Enjoying a picnic atmosphere and putting your feet up, only to get down to the sound of your favourite track, is a not to be a missed opportunity.

Tickets for the concert, whose gates open at 9am, are sold at Computicket and Shoprite Checkers. None will be sold at the gates.
