Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an 18-month- old boy who was run over by a train on Monday.
The toddler was killed while playing on the track with his two-year-old cousin in Nottingham Road, in KwaZulu-Natal.
Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said a train driver had seen the toddlers, but was unable to bring the train to a stop.
"It seems the two wandered unseen from home, about 500 metres away from the accident scene," Budhram said.
He said the two-year-old was airlifted to hospital where he was in a serious but stable condition.
Meanwhile, Umlazi police have urged the public to come and identify the bodies of two men who were hit by a train in Umlazi.
The one man's mutilated body was found near the Mnyandu station yesterday.
In another incident, a 22-year-old man committed suicide when he was smashed to pieces by a train in Verulam last week. - Canaan Mdletshe
