KwaZulu-Natal MEC for agriculture and environmental affairs Mtholephi Mthimkhulu has vowed to rid his department and Ezemvelo Wildlife of corruption and inefficiency.
Mthimkhulu said he would act regardless of the discontent that might be expressed by some individuals.
More than 47 employees of the embattled Ezemvelo Wildlife had been fingered in a forensic audit and accused of fraud and corruption amounting to millions of rands.
Addressing the poor community of Nadi in Umsinga in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands during a Women's Month celebration, Mthimkhulu admitted that some government departments, including his, had been plagued by incompetence and corruption. This slowed down service delivery.
Mthimkhulu said he had put in place policies that will make it easier to detect maladministration to ensure that all people in the province benefit from government services.
"I will not fold my arms when developmental funds are used to buy houses and fast cars, while our people go to bed without food," he said.
