TRUE FRIEND AND WOMAN OF QUALITY

On August 15 when we heard that Philile Winnie Thanjekwayo had passed on, we thought: how ironic that she should pass on during Woman's Month.

To us her friends, Philile epitomised everything good about womanhood; strength, compa- nionship, boldness, love and courage.

Born and raised in Mofolo South, Soweto, Philile struggled against all odds to pass matric, and with good results that enabled her to study for a Bachelor of Social Science degree at the University of Cape Town in 1990. This is where we met and became friends.

She graduated with a BSocSc and a postgraduate degree in Purchasing in 1993 and joined Eskom in 1994, a company she served diligently until the very end.

Philile had a way with people, and when friends got caught up in the corporate jungle and had little time for socialising, Philile would be the first person one to call on them.

She fought her illness courageously for a long time, but Philile finally succumbed.

She will be buried tomorrow. The service will be held at the AME Church in White City, Soweto, from 8am until 10.30am.

Lala ngoxolo sisi wethu. We know you are in a better place. We are proud and honoured to have had you touch our lives. Your smile will be missed. From all your friends.
