A teenager was found hanging inside a wardrobe in her bedroom at Dlamini, Soweto, on Wednesday.
Tsholofelo Koikoi, 19, used her dressing-gown belt to hang herself.
Her distraught mother, Eliza- beth, told Sowetan yesterday that she might be the reason her daughter committed suicide.
"I will never know why my precious Tsholo killed herself," she said. "But I have reason to believe that I am responsible.
"Before she took her life we exchanged some harsh words over her school performance. She dropped out of university in June this year because she had failed her first semester.
"I questioned her efforts towards her studies. My daughter was intelligent but had lately neglected her studies. She concentrated on fun and friendship.
"Tsholo was very upset after I talked to her, but I never thought she would resort to committing suicide.".
Koikoi was a first-year student at the University of Johannesburg.
She was studying towards a degree in public relations.
Koikoi was certified dead by paramedics at her home.
