Hibernating TV bombshell Liopelo Maphathe is to emerge to take centre stage in a new SABC love comedy to screen next month.
Maphathe will appear in a new Sesotho TV comedy, Moferefere Lenyalong, acting alongside TV veteran Patrick Shai.
But the actor was tight-lipped about her somehow checkered past.
Maphathe caused controversy when she left Muvhango amid accusations of taking drugs in 2006.
Yesterday she was prepared to confirm only that she "had to escape the rigours of the industry for the past two years in order to find my foundation".
"I come from an academic family and part of that process of rediscovering myself meant that I had to go back to school, Vega advertising school, to have something to fall back on .
"I now hold a diploma from Vega that I acquired last year.
"This, added to the degree in drama that I got from the University of Free State, means that I have something to fall back on should things not go right in acting.
"Now I feel that I am ready to once again go back into acting on TV and that is why I am in this comedy."
Besides Muvhango, Maphathe made a name for herself in Backstage, Jozi Streets and Madam and Eve.
But she also became known for rejecting relentless claims of drug abuse and having expensive tastes.
In Moferefere Maphathe plays the role of Lesego Matlakala, a stylista and fashionista who loves money.
But this is not Maphathe.
"No. No. I am humble and therefore the opposite of Lesego Matlakala," she said.
